March 3rd is Hinamatsuri, a traditional festival praying girls’ happiness and healthy growing. It was also called as Momono Sekku. Momo is peach flowers, and Sekku means a turning point of something. Hinamatsuri was started in the Heian era, and it came from Hinaasobi which children of aristocrats were playing with dolls. And time passed, in the Edo era, this Hinaasobi was explored to Japan as the ceremony to celebrate girls’ festival. Now, we decorate dolls at home with the girls. However, we need to clear the dolls away soon after, or the girls will miss chance to get married in the future.
